Umar on Brotherhood: A Muslim should look for what is good in his brothers and give them excuses Umar ibn Al-Khattab, leader of the believers, said, “It is not lawful for a Muslim who hears a word from his brother to think badly of him when he can find something good about it.” |
Ibn Hisham: The confrontation between the companions of Muhammad and the Christian King of Abyssinia Ja’far ibn Abu Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, stood and addressed the Negus in the following words, “O king! We were plunged in the depth of ignorance and barbarism; we adored idols; we lived in immorality; we ate dead bodies; and we spoke abominations; we disregarded every feeling of humanity and the duties of hospitality and neighborhood were neglected; we knew no law but that of the strong, but when Allah raised among us a man of whose birth, truthfulness, honesty, and purity we were aware; and he called to the oneness of Allah and taught us not to associate anything with Him. He forbade us the worship of idols and he enjoined us to speak the truth; to be faithful to our trusts; to be merciful and to regard the rights of the neighbors and kith and kin; he forbade us to speak evil of women or to eat the substance of orphans; he ordered us to flee from vices, and to refrain from evil; to offer prayers, to give alms, and to observe fast. We have believed in him, we have accepted his teachings and his command to worship Allah and not to associate anything with Him; and we have allowed what He has allowed and prohibited what He has prohibited. For this reason, our people have risen against us; they have persecuted us in order to make us forsake the worship of Allah and return to the worship of idols and other abominations. They have tortured and harmed us until we found no safety among them, so we have come to your country and we hope you will protect us from oppression.” The Negus said to them, “Do you have anything with you from Allah?” Ja’far said, “Yes,” so the Negus said, “Then recite it to us,” and he recited from memory the verses from Surah Maryam and the Negus, along with the bishops in his realm, were moved to tears until their bears became wet. The Negus said, “Verily, this scripture and what has come from Jesus have emerged from the same lamp. You are released, for by Allah, I will never surrender them to the Quraish.”

A Muslim should look for what is good

The congregational prayer of anyone amongst
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abu Aufa (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):
A man displayed some goods in the market and swore by Allah that he had
been offered so much for that, that which was not offered, and he said so,
so as to cheat a Muslim. On that occasion the following Verse was revealed:
"Verily! Those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's covenant
and their oaths (They shall have no portion in the Hereafter ..etc.)'
(3.77)Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 301
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Umar (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):
Once the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) sent to 'Umar a silken
two-piece garment, and when he saw 'Umar wearing it, he said to him, "I
have not sent it to you to wear. It is worn by him who has no share in the
Hereafter, and I have sent it to you so that you could benefit by it (i.e.
sell it)."Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 317
Narrated 'Aisha (Radi-Allahu 'anha):
(Mother of the faithful believers) I bought a cushion with pictures on it.
When Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) saw it, he kept
standing at the door and did not enter the house. I noticed the sign of
disgust on his face, so I said, "O Allah's Apostle! I repent to Allah and
His Apostle . (Please let me know) what sin I have done."
Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "What about this
cushion?" I replied, "I bought it for you to sit and recline on." Allah's
Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "The painters (i.e. owners) of
these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection. It will be said
to them, 'Put life in what you have created (i.e. painted).' " The Prophet
(Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) added, "The angels do not enter a house
where there are pictures."Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 318
Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):
Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "The congregational
prayer of anyone amongst you is more than twenty (five or twenty seven)
times in reward than his prayer in the market or in his house, for if he
performs ablution completely and then goes to the masjid with the sole
intention of performing the prayer, and nothing urges him to proceed to the
masjid except the prayer, then, on every step which he takes towards the
masjid, he will be raised one degree or one of his sins will be forgiven.
The angels will keep on asking Allah's forgiveness and blessings for
everyone of you so long as he keeps sitting at his praying place. The
angels will say, 'O Allah, bless him! O Allah, be merciful to him!' as long
as he does not do Hadath or a thing which gives trouble to the other." The
Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) further said, "One is regarded in
prayer so long as one is waiting for the prayer."Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 330
Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):
Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) forbade the selling of
things by a town dweller on behalf of a desert dweller; and similarly Najsh
was forbidden. And one should not urge somebody to return the goods to the
seller so as to sell him his own goods; nor should one demand the hand of a
girl who has already been engaged to someone else; and a woman should not
try to cause some other woman to be divorced in order to take her place.Bukhari Vol. 3 : No. 350

The Prophet sees Abraham
Hadith on Night Journey: The Prophet sees Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, and he chooses milk instead of wine Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “On the night of my ascension to heaven, I saw Moses who was a thin man with lank hair, looking as if he were one of the men of the tribe of Shanua; and I saw Jesus who was of medium height with a red face as if he had come from the washroom; and I resemble Abraham more than anyone else among his offspring. Then I was given two cups, one containing milk and the other wine. Gabriel said: Drink whatever you wish. I took the milk and drank it. He said: You have taken what is natural, and had you taken the wine your nation would have gone astray.”
Hadith on Resurrection: The gathering for judgment, the honor of Abraham, and the humiliation of renegades Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “You will be gathered barefoot, naked and uncircumcised.” Then he recited, “As we began the first creation, so shall We repeat it; a promise binding upon Us, truly, We shall do it,” (21:104). He continued, “The first to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be Abraham, and some of my companions will be taken towards the left side and I will say: My companions! My companions! It will be said: They were renegades after you. Then I will say as the righteous servant said: I was a witness over them while I was among them, but when You took me You were the watcher over them; and You are a witness over all things. If you punish them, they are your servants and if you forgive them, verily, You alone are the Almighty, the Wise.”

The Prophet’s parable of the
Hadith on Wisdom: The Prophet’s parable of the fire, and the wisdom of Solomon son of David Abu Huraira reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying, “My parable and that of the people is like a man who lit a fire and the moths, butterflies and insects fell into it.” He also said, “There were two women, each of whom had a child with her. A wolf came and took one of their children, but the other woman said: it has taken your child. The first woman said: no, rather, it has taken your child. So they took their case before David who judged that the living child be given to the older woman, and then both of them went to Solomon son of David and told him about the matter. He said: bring me a knife so I can cut the child into two pieces and distribute it among them. The young lady said: do not do so, may Allah have mercy on you, because it is her child. Therefore, Solomon gave the child to the young lady.”
