“O people,

Salim Abu An-Nadri reported: The freed slave of Umar ibn Ubaidullah, who was his clerk, said Abdullah ibn Abu Awfi wrote to him a letter which contained the following: One day the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, waited until the sun had declined and then he stood in front of the people and he said, “O people, do not desire to meet the enemy but ask Allah for security; when you meet your enemy, you should be patient and know that Paradise is under the shade of swords.” Then he said, “O Allah, the Revealer of the Book, the Mover of the clouds, Defeater of the confederates, defeat the disbelievers and bestow victory upon us.”
