Ibn Hisham: The Prophet would never abandon Islam even if the Quraish put the sun and moon in his hands
Ibn Ishaq reported: The Quraish appealed to Abu Talib, the Prophet’s uncle, concerning the matter, so he sent for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and he said to him, “O son of my brother, indeed, your people have already come to me and they said such-and-such, so please spare me and yourself. Do not burden me with what I cannot handle.” The Messenger of Allah thought that his uncle had changed his mind and he would no longer protect him, so he said, “O my uncle, by Allah, even if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand on the condition that I abandon this matter, I will never abandon it until either Allah has made me victorious or I perish therein.” Then the Messenger of Allah wept and he stood up to leave. Abu Talib said, “Come back, O son of my brother!” The Messenger of Allah turned back to him and Abu Talib said, “Go and say what you like, for by Allah, I will never surrender them to you.”
